Designer and art director
Catarina Sampaio is a Graphic Designer and Art Director specialized in Film and Television marketing.
She has been working in the film industry for over 15 years, including on several productions by established filmmakers, both Portuguese and International, such as Wim Wenders, David Cronenberg, Fernando Lopes, António-Pedro Vasconcelos, Raúl Ruiz, José Fonseca e Costa, Tiago Guedes, Marco Martins, Robert Schwentke, Valeria Sarmiento, Andrzej Zulawski, João Mário Grilo, João Nuno Pinto, Hugo Vieira da Silva amongst many others.
Her work has received several distinctions, among them the Best Film Poster Award from the Portuguese Film Academy. She got selected for Berlin's exhibition The Big Screen - Film Posters of All Time and her posters are now part of the Art Library collection of the State Museum.

Resume
Catarina graduated in Graphic Design and Multimedia Technologies, at the School of Art and Design of Caldas da Rainha; has an M.A. in Communication Design and New Media, from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon; a Post-Graduation degree in New Media and Web Practices, from FCSH - Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of the Nova University of Lisbon; and specialized in Advertising Creativity, at Restart - Institute of Creativity, Arts and New Technologies. She is currently a PhD candidate in Fine Arts - Communication Design, at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon.
She started working in advertising and worked as an art director at Euro RSCG Worldwide/ Havas. Nevertheless, soon after trying her hand as a graphic designer for arthouse film productions, with the Franco-Portuguese producer Paulo Branco, she decided to change her focus, specializing in film marketing.
Since then, she has gained experience in all fields related to communication design in the film industry, from production to distribution, exhibition, international sales, festivals, television and VOD. Her design practice ranges in a diversity of media, from print to digital.
Currently, she works as a designer and art director and runs her independent design cabinet. Also, she gives talks and workshops on graphic design and film marketing.
She is also a researcher at CIEBA - Center for Research and Studies in Fine Arts. She has had research papers published in scientific journals and artistic work presented at several international art and design conferences and exhibitions.
