Packaging design for the DVD edition of six films from the Unknown Japanese Masters Collection, following the visual identity I created for the films’ theatrical release.
Unknown Japanese Masters is a distribution project by The Stone and the Plot and programmer Miguel Patrício, with the aim of bringing to light the works of Japanese filmmakers with little or no circulation outside their country of origin. With a strong presence in the 1950s and 1960s — which, for different reasons, critics referred to as the “golden eras” of Japanese cinema — this box set brings together six films from the first three cycles, originally screened in cinemas.
