Poster for Loin de la Route (Off the Beaten Track) by Hugo Vieira da Silva, co-directed by Paulo MilHomens.
The film was shot in Tahiti where Gauguin lived for several years. It tells the story of Victor Segalen, a doctor, poet, and artist who in 1903 travelled to Hiva’Oa to meet Gauguin personally. On his arrival on the island, he learns the painter has passed away. Nevertheless, he chooses to stay and explore the rich landscapes and culture of Tahiti, leaving an impressive ethnographic work of both drawings, paintings and writings that prompted the making of this film.
